About the Indonesia English Language Study Program (IELSP):
The English Programs for Internationals (EPI) of the University of South Carolina (USC), working with the Institute of International Education (IIE), will provide English for Academic Purposes for the Indonesian English Language Study Program (IELSP) for third and fourth year undergraduate students from colleges, universities and teacher training institutions across Indonesia. This program will offer a program of intensive Academic English language training, in conjunction with an enhanced understanding of American society and culture as well as the opportunity for the participants to develop their critical thinking skills.
About the U.S. Department of State:
The IELSP Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. For over 55 years, IIE has collaborated with the U.S. Department of State in the administration of the J. William Fulbright U.S. and Foreign Student and Scholars programs. IIE currently administers over forty other programs sponsored by the State Department through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, including the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program, International Visitors program, the Gilman Scholarship Program, and the Open Doors survey.
About the Institute of International Education (IIE):
An independent, nonprofit organization, the Institute is a resource for educators and institutions worldwide. Our goals are:

• to increase the number of students, scholars and professionals who have the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research outside of their own country
• to strengthen and internationalize institutions of higher learning throughout the world
• to foster sustainable development through training programs in energy, environment, business management, and leadership development
• to partner with corporations, foundations, and governments in finding and developing people able to think and work on a global basis.
About the English Programs for Internationals (EPI):
English Programs for Internationals (EPI) is the intensive English program of the University of South Carolina (USC) and is located in the heart of the graceful, 200-year-old Columbia campus. Established in 1979, EPI is distinguished by its expert teachers, its extensive use of technology, and its adherence to the highest standards in all aspects of the program. Evidence of EPI's high standards is its national accreditation (2004-2014) by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and its membership in the Consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) and the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP). EPI has an international reputation for excellence in English-as-a-second-language (ESL) instruction and services. EPI's top quality
instruction and friendly, personalized student services enable international students to feel comfortable in their new environment.
From the time that EPI students arrive, they feel at home. An EPI representative picks EPI students up at the airport and takes them to their accommodations. EPI students live on campus in USC apartments or off campus in apartments. EPI helps students open bank accounts, go shopping, attend to health care needs, complete their university applications, meet Americans, and learn about American culture.
All students receive at least 20 hours of supervised English instruction per week. Class size averages from 12 to 15 students of similar English proficiency. EPI offers six proficiency levels: 1, beginning; 2, high beginning; 3, intermediate; 4, high intermediate; 5, advanced; and 6, high advanced. Students are placed in their classes based on the results of tests given at the beginning of each term. EPI has three computer labs, so there are ample computer workstations for all EPI students. All EPI students have email accounts and Internet access. Additional learning opportunities include community activities, trips to cultural and recreational attractions, and American Conversation Partners.
